Re-Shaping your rails and general information on what it can do for your riding.

.'.

First off, we would like to say each Integrity deck comes 'turn key' or ready to ride without any shaping necessary. Secondly, re-shaping can also help some riders dial in their skate by adjusting the rails to their liking. By doing this it can help you become a better rider and allow you to progress and grow at your own pace. Below we will explain what you can accomplish by fine tuning or customizing your deck.

Every deck comes stock with a 32' degree edge from top to the bottom sheet. [exhibit A.] It runs the entire length of the board slowly fading out to the tips. This aggressive bevel allows the board to plane high on the water. With this bevel you will notice a very quick response time. It will allow you to turn with speed, force, and hold an edge extremely well. The pro's and con's for shaping the rails are listed also. Some things listed below might apply to some riders and some will not... depending on skill level and the way each person adapts and rides.

... 32' degree semi-sharp rail...

the images below are just a gross representation of the actual rail shape.

Every Integrity deck comes stock with this rail shape, with an intermediate to advanced skill level in mind...

Pro's : Quick response, fast, low drag, solid edging, cleaner pop with a finer spray, quicker initiation for tricks, deck will stay closer to feet when olling since it isn't tracking thru the water... it's riding higher up on top of it... so, it won't be sucked down by having a deeper divot which surrounds the rail and holds it down.

Con's : Lip tricks can be easier to hang up on, A looser feel that might cause problems for a less experienced rider. We recommend fins with this rail shape which will help it track and ride more predictably.

... 32' Degree with softer rail...

Pro's : Lip tricks are more predictable, tracks very well, great for finless riding, seats deeper in the water which can allow for more room for error, softer edging, deck rides slower which can help in preventing the splits and or initiating tricks. Good for all around riding

Con's : Slower, more drag, less pop than the sharper edge, wake to wake might require harder edging.

... How to Shape your rails ...

It's really simple, all you need is some medium grit sand paper and or a sanding block. Just round the edge with a back and forth motion up and down the rail. The rail will shape easily once you round the bottom sheet down a bit. A power sander or palm sander will shape it in seconds were as hand sanding obliviously will requires more effort. After you have the desired shape use some fine 'wet sand' paper to smooth it out... Nothing too complex here...

I personally ride with my edges soft thru the waist and progressively getting shaper towards the tail this allows me to have the best of both worlds... nice edging for wake to wake, and softer waist for lip tricks. I would also like to encourage you to experiment with your deck... it will help you discover what works best for you and ultimately make you a better rider. You might be suprised how much of a difference it will make.

Gripping your deck step by step instructions

.'.

1.) Wipe the surface of the deck with a dry cloth to take away any dust. Do not clean with any solvents... they can leave a residue that breaks the adhesive down and won't allow for a solid bond.

2.) The best way to apply your Jessup's grip tape is to just fold back a 1 inch section of the backing leaving the rest on.

3.) Slightly press the nose piece down at center and top of the deck so a thumb size portion of the grip tacks down.

4.) Adjust until everything looks square and it sits where you want it to be.

5.) Press the grip down firmly where the 1 inch section you exposed in step 2 is fully stuck with out bubbles or creases.

6.) Then peel the rest of the backing off and slowly lay the grip down while keeping some tension on the tape so no bubbles form.

7.) Place the backing you just peeled on the top of the grip surface (easier on the skin) and push down firmly from the middle out to the edges.

8.) Make sure you press firmly all around, especially the outside edges.

9.) Now I would stand on it and press around with your feet to help seat the grip even more.

10.) If you don't press firmly water can cause the grip to peel up in spots. The only time I have seen problems was when the grip didn't get press firmly all around the edges.

11.) Go ride...
